Since dogs and Mobs made to follow using leads are glitchy on the towny server, i think it would be nice to be able to catch mobs in eggs using the EggCatcher bukkit plugin. [ https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/eggcatcher ]

You could set prices for catching mobs and even add the permissions as rewards in the crates, which would encourage people to vote more. Though, it might make the already existing egg rewards in crates less valuable.

I personally love the Golden Lasso item from Extra Utilities - it probably wouldn't be hard for a plugin to do the same thing with a special kind of Lead. You could easily prevent devaluing existing Spawn Eggs by disabling the capture of all mobs that Spawn Eggs have been/are being distributed for.

I really want to see *some* kind of way to bring mobs home though, especially so that I can have all the colors of rabbits (their colors are biome based).

To be honest I think it's doable, but I don't know if such a plugin (with a sort of golden lasso) exists, maybe it should be custom made for the server? (Which adds another fun aspect to the server.)

Golden lasso is a tool/item from extra utilities, a mod that is used in plenty of modpacks, it lets you capture mobs by right clicking them.
It looks like this:

When a mob is in the golden lasso the golden lasso has an enchanted texture, when the player right clicks on the ground, which releases the mob, you get the normal texture again.
